190lbs even at 5 days into the summer cut. So much more improvement to come but taking it slow and steady, avoiding the temptation to slash calories even further. I have my plan that I know works and I’m sticking to it. I’d rather lose a higher ratio of fat:muscle by keeping it slow and controlled than dropping weight ASAP and going more catabolic than necessary. Some heavy singles this week with the goal of lower body being pain free. # First up was squats, second attempt weight last time was 160kg looking much more like an opener which I am very pleased with. Rpe on this was much lower than it has been in the past, which is a measure of progress I feel is neglected by many. The same weight feeling easier is just as good a marker of greater strength. # Then it was the turn of the absolute danger bench set up. Squat stands are something I am extremely grateful for but they don’t half make for nervous benching when your only spot is a flimsy 15cm bar behind your head. This is under my opener at 125kg but I’m happy with it considering it’s a self hand off and in this set up! # Lastly and a little tentatively RDLs. I had been having issue with my SI Joint a few weeks back, so I kept it a little conservative here. Straps but no belt, which is how I tend to go for RDLs anyway...but happy with 175kg for a conservative single. # To caveat this, I did get a small flare up of pain around my left hip a few days later but nothing major. This isn’t something to panic about but more to understand that whilst I could perform these weights comfortably, it may be a slight stretch too far (comfortable squat, but still 94% of my max ) whilst I am building back into lower training after a rest. From here I spoke with @_jacklovett and we’re taking the approach of being even more conservative on lower for now to ease in. # It’s a difficult mindset to approach sometimes especially when training hard is engrained in you. But seeing the long game and holding yourself back from pushing closer to that red line is largely where the long term gain is going to come from. # Something I have to remind myself is that training is for training and not competition, that should be saved for the platform. # Whilst I am confident I could do these again, the signal and feedback are worth reading and considering when it comes to taking care of the body as well as progressing in strength.
