Just got a message from one of my beat friends who right now is in survivor mode. Why you ask? Because the man who said he loved her, hurt her. She spoke up and reported it. He goes to jail and everything is a go. Two days before trial he takes a plea and they lessen his charges. She was not notified. She wants answers from the county prosecutor but that person can’t even be man enough to call her back and explain why?! I’m so sick of these wife beaters that think it’s ok and they can do whatever they want. I mean their going to get away with it or take a plea deal and not serve the time that they should! #standup #speakout #iwillnotbesilenced #fuckdomesticviolence #realmendonthitwomen #iamasurvivor

Missing and murdered: Canada's genocide cover-up; Canada’s denial of race-based genocide has allowed systemic violence against Indigenous women and girls in particular to continue in plain sight. The only question now should be what is Canada going to do about it? JUNE 27, 2019 It’s no longer up for debate. Canada is guilty of genocide. The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls has found that Canada has and continues to engage in “race-based genocide.” The inquiry called to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder and disappearance of an estimated 1,200 Indigenous women and girls came to its conclusion after hearing from their family members, survivors of violence and expert witnesses, as well as conducting its own independent research. The finding that Canada is guilty of genocide is based firmly on the evidence and law. This is not the first time an inquiry or commission has come to this conclusion. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission into Indian residential schools also found Canada guilty of genocide – cultural, physical and biological. Pre- and post-Confederation governments have engaged in the targeted elimination, dispossession, oppression and violence against Indigenous peoples. Canadian governments used premeditated acts like the mass distribution of smallpox-infested blankets and placing bounties on scalps to kill off Indigenous peoples. They engaged in policies aimed at starving Indigenous peoples to death to clear the prairies for settlement. Canadian governments have also engaged in covering up the disproportionate number of deaths of Indigenous peoples in police custody and the over-incarceration of Indigenous peoples to keep them locked up and out of sight. The Northwest Mounted Police, worked with Indian agents to withhold food rations for reserve communities in order to extort sex from young Indigenous girls. Indigenous women and girls were targeted for forced sterilizations. Cont'd in messages.

Never in a million years was I planning on posting this photo. To me it screams messy. I have no makeup on, my hair is frizzy, and don’t even get me started on my travel day attire, but... • This photo is also the REAL me! Goofy, fun-loving, energetic me. It’s real. I’m finished with only sharing the highlight reel and not letting you guys into the very real and raw deleted scenes and bloopers as well. • Don’t get me wrong, Recovery is a BEAUTIFUL journey but it’s also hard, and sucky most days, full of tears, breakdowns, and nervous laughter in my car. It’s real. It’s really messy, but it’s also a really beautiful gift that I’m learning to embrace and keep trudging toward each and everyday. • So never be afraid to embrace where you are in this wild ride we call life. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, all you have to do is be you! Today I recieved the biggest surprise from the Waxahachie Police Department 👮‍♂️. I've been to this station a few times to share my story and talk about @namintx as part of their CIT training, and they have always been so open, so kind, and so welcoming to me, even sending me a Thank You note after my first visit; but today they really shocked me by presenting me with this Community Partner award. I can't tell you how much my heart smiled today from this very unexpected moment. Today was such a beautiful reminder and example of what I mean during my CIT story when I say "...ultimately it changed the course of my life, and whether that be good or bad is yet to be determined, but I will say that I am really happy to be standing here ABLE to share my story and to be comfortable enough to share it with you all. Having the ability to do so has been such a positive result of my life experiences." Thank you, Waxahachie PD for always being so kind💕 . . #mentalhealthTRUTHmatters #mentalhealtheducation 💚 #cit #waxahachiepd #SpeakUp #SpeakOut #curestigma #mentalhealthTALKmatters #mentalhealthawareness

Coming out is so hard. Overthinking what people will say, wondering if they will hate you, turn their back and walk away, being petrified that if people don't like it they'll call you a poof or a faggot, wondering if you'll become the latest piece of gossip or have friends not allow you round their house anymore because their family wouldn't like it. I thought all of these but my reality has been so different. I'm so lucky to have an incredible family and the best group of friends. I have only had a handful of homophobic slurs thrown at me and I've managed to brush these off. Do they hurt...Yes....Does the person shouting them matter...No! This photo is so powerful to me. I live my life happy, I'm comfortable with my sexuality. I don't throw it in people's face but I don't hide it. I speak my truth and am able to have a healthy debate with others who think differently. Sometimes it's ok to disagree, that's what makes us human. The good side of social media is there is always someone to reach out to. If you're that person, male or female 'in the closet', terrified of coming out, just know you'll always have someone to message. Including me! Be Kind. Be Brave. Be You... . . #Gay #GayUK #ComingOut #ComeOut #ComingOutStories #BeKind #BeBrave #BeYou #SpeakOut #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #LGBT #GayMan #GayMale #GayFit #GaySurrey #Proud #Pride #Love #LoveisLove #POTD #PhotoOfTheDay #Powerful #Photo #LoveThis #MyStory

Kathy Wai is a Southeast Asian-born immigrant, elected official, and community organizer. She’s called Oregon her home for two decades, and proud to grow up in outer East Portland. After graduating with a Public Health degree from Portland State University, Kathy worked as a case manager, resettling refugee families from war-torn countries. She became increasingly politicized bringing families to the state capitol at the first annual Asian and Pacific Islander legislative day in 2009. Since then, Kathy has held previous positions as an organizer with SEIU, Legislative Director for Rep. Alissa Keny-Guyer and Field Director for the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon. . Motivated to see more BIPOC women in significant leadership positions, Kathy ran for a contested seat on the North Clackamas School Board, and was elected in 2017, becoming the youngest women of color to serve. In 2018, she was also appointed by the Governor to serve on TriMet’s Board of Directors. . @kathywai503

Reach out to me. Keep me company, until my days end. Tell me you care and mean it until we get there, all that stays true, plays this game so fair. Learn to love again, and share it with me, so we can enjoy our story without all that worry. Until we meet again my favorite friend. . . . . . . . . The suicide prevention video I said I’d post if you all wanted to see it, I Directed and scripted it, I was also the audio technician so the tune is an original I made, simple but I wanted to tell a story. Kept it short because it was entered into a competition. But enjoy and leave your thoughts on it or comments below : ) Also thank you @acorn_drawz for animating this project, couldn’t have done it without you, very proud of this. #suicideprevention #suicideawarness #yournotalone #speakout #speakup #directingchange @directingchange

It feels important after the new of Caroline Flacks suicide, to remind people that things can and will get better. Whatever you are struggling with - reach out for help, talk to someone and start the process of recovery • When a prominent figure takes their own life, it’s easy for people to say “how did this happen?” or “why would they do that?” but anyone who’s dealt with suicidal thoughts or attempted suicide will know how scarily easy it is to slip into that mentality if you don’t have the right support system in place • It’s also incredibly triggering for a lot of people to hear so much media coverage about these topics. So I encourage everyone to be extra kind and extra compassionate to people right now. You can’t ever truly know how much someone is suffering and how far a little bit of kindness will go to help • When I was dealing with my bullying, I could not see the way out. Life lost a lot of meaning. I didn’t know how it could get better.... now I am living a completely different version of my life and pretty much loving it! • That chapter was incredibly painful, I wish I could have skipped it - but I did get through it with some guidance, love and support and and so can you. I promise you. • Keep going, keep fighting and please reach out for help if you need it ❤️

In honour of @carolineflack - we never ever know what is happening for someone else inside the bounds of their body and mind. It is for this reason I ask you to be kind, always. While you can not control the twists, turns and potholes of someone elses journey, you have the ability to make their travels a little smoother. In honour of those suffering with their mental health. Please speak out to a trusted, responsible friend, family member, or professionals. I know it may not seem it at times but the world would not be a better place if you weren't in it. Lots of love, Katie #speakout #mentalhealth #NBO
